The seventh stamp in the "Music Icons" series, this Forever stamp pays tribute to the extraordinary talent of Sarah Vaughan. The First Day of Issue ceremony was held in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey, at the Sarah Vaughan Concert Hall. Vaughan was a master of the jazz vocal, possessing a multi-octave range and a remarkable ability to improvise. She began her career in the big band era and went on to become a celebrated solo artist, recording numerous classic albums. Her interpretations of jazz standards are considered definitive by many. The stamp features an oil painting by Bart Forbes based on a 1955 photograph by Hugh Bell, capturing her elegance and artistry in performance.
